During the first week of September, the AgroRadio team visited several provinces in Spain to commemorate World Agriculture Day, which took place on September 9. Among the destinations was Tudela, Navarra, where they interviewed Diego Orta, farmer and general director of FHF, to talk about his experience in the sector and the current agricultural reality.
Diego, who manages more than 450 hectares of crops, shared with AgroRadio how the production of a variety of crops is organized, including peppers, tomatoes, artichokes, cauliflower, broccoli, and corn, among others. He highlighted the importance of crop rotation to keep the land in good condition and diversify its offer, adapting to the demands of both the market and the industry.
In the interview, he commented that they are currently in the middle of harvesting tomatoes and peppers. Part of this production is destined for fresh production and the other part for the industry, where the pepper is delivered whole or chopped, depending on the customer’s needs. Orta explained how the harvest is brought to the FHF facility in Fontellas, where the product is quickly refrigerated before being processed and stored, meeting the strict requirements of our customers.
What makes our director stand out is not only his production capacity, but his personal involvement in the entire process. At 48 years old, he manages 75 employees and supervises every stage, from preparing the land to marketing the products. For him, the field is more than a job; It’s a passion. This entrepreneurial spirit has allowed us to expand our cultivation area and consolidate our position as a benchmark in the sector.
We appreciate the opportunity to share our testimony, which reflects how Spanish agriculture continues to evolve and consolidate as a key pillar of the country’s economy.
